It’s official: Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry has
renounced his American citizenship and pledged his unwavering allegiance
to the flag of the Multinational Corporations of non-America.
Anybody that has been paying attention has known, for a long time,
that Republican politicians share little, if any, allegiance to the
United States and its people. Since the “Reagan Revolution”, the speed
at which they have gifted unnecessary loopholes, subsidies, and other forms of corporate welfare into multinational corporations that ship American jobs overseas is nothing short of admirable.
Gov. Perry is such a puppet of the multinational corporations that fund his political career, he has actually gone out of his way to veto a bipartisan piece of legislation passed by the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature dubbed the “Buy American” bill.
The legislation, officially known as HB535 which was passed by overwhelming margins of 145-0 in the House and 23-7 in the Senate, was intended to give preference to American-made goods when the large state of Texas is making purchases, given that they are of equal cost and quality to foreign made products.
In other words, the bill would ensure that every purchase made by the largest state economy in the country would be made made and produced right here in America, as long as it is of the same, or better, quality and cost.
Why in the world would Gov. Perry choose to veto a piece of legislation that is supported by 96% of all Texas legislators, especially one which will be a huge benefit to America?
Given how rare it is to get bipartisan support for any bill proposed in today’s toxic legislative climate, and the fact that this bill makes economic sense and will help keep tax revenue and corporate profits here in Texas and America, it is absolutely unconscionable that Gov. Perry would go against the wishes of his own constituents, legislators, and the American people at large, in order to appease the bottom lines of the multinational corporations that line his campaign coffers.
This proves, once again, that the modern-day GOP is a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate multinationals, voting against the best interests of the American people on each and every piece of legislation.
The Texas AFL-CIO released a statement after today’s veto:
“Gov. Perry by his veto has undercut the creation and preservation of manufacturing jobs in Texas and the U.S.” [Texas AFL-CIO President Becky] Moeller said. “These jobs are critical to our economic success. Despite the governor’s grandstanding in California and Illinois and his rhetoric about jobs, the veto of HB 535 reveals a painful truth: this Governor won’t stand up for American jobs or Texas workers.”
“We again thank the Legislature for its hard work and the outstanding advances on ‘Buy America’ issues in this session.”
While we cannot expect his supporters to come to the realization that
Gov. Perry doesn’t care about Texan nor American workers, by making
some noise about this glaring example, we can capture the attention of
the rest of American voters so that America can finally start ridding
itself off treasonous Republican politicians that are beholden to
un-American interests.
