Outfest award winner “Geography Club” gets distribution deal from Breaking Glass Pictures

When I watched Geography Club at Outfest last week, I thought it was one of the movies with the best potential to be a crossover commercial hit.

So it’s no surprise to learn that Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights for this wonderful movie that was so well-received at Outfest that it won the Audience Award for Outstanding First U.S. Dramatic Feature Film.

The film is set at a high school where the gay-straight alliance is called the Geography Club to protect the privacy of its members who are not out publicly. Among those who join are a male student who is secretly dating the school’s closeted football star.

The film is based on Brent Hartinger’s best selling novel and stars Cameron Deane Stewart, Justin Deeley and Nikki Blonsky, among others. It was directed by Gary Entin and written by Edmund Entin and will be released in early 2014.

At Sunday’s Outfest Awards Brunch, the film’s producer Mike Huffington said: “I not only think this movie will be entertaining, but I also think it will save lives.”
