Remember Stephen Hill,
the gay, brave Army Captain serving in Iraq who was booed at the 2011
GOP debate in Orlando? Hill submitted a question to the Republican
presidential candidates via YouTube, asking if they would roll back the
advances made under President Obama’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
The audience booed him. Not one of the candidates on stage came to his
defense.
HBO’s (absolutely excellent) “The Newsroom” last night demonstrated how news reporters should have handled the outrage.
By the way, “The Newsroom” is one of the best shows on TV. If you
have HBO, I urge you to watch it. Jeff Daniels plays an anchor who
reports the news the way MSNBC should.
While you’re here, we’d like to thank Captain Steve Snyder-Hill for his service and congratulate him and his husband, Joshua Alan Snyder-Hill, who today are still working for equality. True American heroes.
