In less than 90 seconds, Senator Elizabeth Warren made it very clear
just how much she believes in the value of honest, hard work. Speaking
at the 2013 AFL-CIO convention in Los Angeles, CA over the weekend, the
freshman Senator from Massachusetts continued building her legacy of
being a crusader for the middle class by delivering a power-packed 15
minute speech in front of the country’s largest union of laborers. Her
entire speech is noteworthy, but it was the following segment that
really got the crowd fired up.
Our agenda is America’s agenda. The American people know the system is rigged against them, and they want us to level the playing field. Real reform isn’t easy. But I know this, if we don’t fight we can’t win, but if we fight, we will win.
It’s not hard to see why so many people on the left have fallen
head-over-heels for Senator Warren. She acknowledges her losses, she
acknowledges just how hard the fight to “level the playing field” as she
calls it will be. Through it all though, she shows resillience, having
been hoisted out of Washington once before by the TEApublicans, she
arose from the ashes of that defeat and got herself elected to the
United States Senate so she could work for reforms in that capacity
instead.
Senator Warren is precisely the kind of lawmaker we need to stick
around for a long, long time. She clearly understands how devastated the
middle class has been in the last thirty or more years, and she has the
moxie, determination and experience to bring about real, effective
change. Watch the snippet of Senator Warren’s speech at the AFL-CIO
convention below.
