Sarah Palin and her Super PAC are being sued for violation of copyright by the
publisher who owns the rights to an original photo, a version of which
the former Alaska governor used in her 9/11 tribute. Palin branded an iconic photo of three New York City firemen raising a
flag at the World Trade Center just after the September, 11, 2001
attacks.
The branding for political, financial, and personal gain was
offensive. Other organizations, including AT&T, were also chastised
for branding their 9/11 tributes, but The New Civil Rights Movement was
the only one to report that Palin had used a copyrighted image.
The lawsuit, filed Friday by North Jersey Media Group Inc., demands
Palin stop using the image, and seeks unreported financial damages.
“The Manhattan federal court lawsuit says that by using the picture
‘to promote Sarah Palin and to raise money for SarahPAC’ the former
Republican vice-presidential nominee has ‘irreparably damaged’ the
newspaper company,” NewsDay reports.
Palin has removed the image from her Facebook page.
