At Flame Ceremony, IOC President Says He Has 'Assurances' from Russia on Gays

Bach
The Olympic flame for the Sochi 2014 Games was lit in Greece yesterday and IOC President Thomas Bach repeated the organization's assertion that it was okay for the Games to be held there because Russia would not bother anyone:

"We have to ensure the policy of non-discrimination at all venues and for all athletes and for all other participants...We have the assurances of the highest authorities in Russia, and yesterday I spoke with the Russian delegation here in Olympia again and they reassured us that the Olympic Charter will fully apply for all the participants of the games at all Olympic venues."
The IOC continues to not appear to have any concern about the values of the country or the human rights abuses being inflicted upon Russian LGBT citizens beyond its own event.
