Here’s a ray of sunshine. It’s true — wisdom comes with age, which is
probably why a lot of kids love spending time with their grandparents.
FCKH8, the activist T-shirt company, posted this letter to their Facebook page, writing it was “sent in by a supporter.”
The letter above was apparently written by a father who has
decided to disown his daughter because she disowned her son — his
grandson — for being gay.
“I’m disappointed in you as a daughter,” the father writes. “You’re
correct that we have a ‘shame in the family,’ but mistaken about what it
is.”
“Dad” writes that the “real abomination” was kicking her son out of
her home “simply because he told you he was gay.” The grandfather adds
that a “parent disowning her child is what goes ‘against nature.’”
But wait, it gets better.
“The only intelligent thing I heard you say in all this was that ‘you
didn’t raise your son to be gay.’ Of course you didn’t. He was born
this way and didn’t choose it any more than [he] did being left-handed,”
the insightful grandfather says.
He adds that while being gay isn’t a choice, being “hurtful, narrow-minded, and backward” is.
“So while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think
I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as
the gay[s] put it!) grandson to raise, and I don’t think I’ll have time
for [a] heartless B-word of a daughter.
“I[f] you find your heart, give us a call.”
Wow. Score one for grandfathers, grandsons, and equality.
