Representative Steve Stockman (R-TX) the
Tea party supported primary challenger for the seat now held by
“liberal” Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), invisible man for most of this
month and the man who stood up and walked out on the President’s State of the Union address Tuesday night has now announced that he is considering bringing articles of impeachment.
The congressman said that he had suggested a year ago that it may be
necessary to remove Obama from office and that now it appears to be the
only way to stop him.
“Obama defiantly vowed not only to radically expand the reach of
government from cradle to grave, but to smash the Constitution’s
restrictions on government power while doing it. His goal is to
eliminate our constitutional republic,” he said. “Last year I said I
would consider impeachment as a last resort to stop Obama’s abuse of power. And, quite frankly, we’re running out of options.”
He issued a statement through his campaign website which said in part:
“Dear Patriot,
I’m considering filing articles of impeachment against Barack Obama.
You see, I walked out of Obama’s State of the Union address last night.
Obama defiantly vowed not only to radically expand the reach of
government from cradle to grave, but to smash the Constitution’s
restrictions on government power while doing it.
His goal is to eliminate our constitutional republic.
Last year I said I would consider impeachment as a last resort to stop Obama’s abuse of power.
And, quite frankly, we’re running out of options.
But I can’t do it alone.
This will only succeed if I have hundreds of thousands standing with me.
That’s why I need to hear from you immediately.
Do you want Barack Obama impeached?”
He then supplies three separate links to his petition to impeach, imploring the faithful to sign and demand that the tyrant be removed.
Since resurfacing on Monday, Stockman has been busy with damage
control, accusing the “liberal media” of lying about him being
unaccounted for all month and insisting that they knew at all times
where he was and that he had, in fact, missed 17 votes including the
vote on the omnibus spending bill which he had vowed to vote against,
because he had been busy campaigning.
He told Breitbart News,
“I missed votes because I don’t have a zillion dollars like Cornyn and
have [to] campaign. But I wasn’t missing. The Dallas Morning News
covered my talk and Cornyn’s tracker was there. Both the press and
Cornyn knew where I was.”
He was referencing a January 14 appearance at a Tea party event in Texas
before a smallish group in a church which he left hurriedly after
spotting a Cornyn supporter with a video camera. Later he was a no-show
at another larger event where he was scheduled to speak.
The other part of his explanation for the disappearing act was a trip
which he took to Egypt with four other congressmen. He claims that the
press was well aware of his whereabouts and that the Associated Press
which had reported that he was missing had actually had a correspondent
at the press conference the group held in Cairo.
In a text message from London the congressman told Breitbart, “There
was 5 of us on the trip. They were laughing at the whole steve is
missing thing. In Egypt the press conference was covered by AP,
Bloomberg, [National Public Radio], [the New York Times], Reuters, Wall
Street Journal, just about all of MSM,” he added, “email the AP guy in
Egypt.”
All of this comes up very short of explaining the missed votes. The
four congressmen who took the trip with him did not miss 15 of those
votes which Stockman missed and there have been no campaign appearances
that have been uncovered by any media source. It also does not explain
why no one in his office has responded to inquiries from the press all
month.
Stockman concluded his comments to Breitbart saying, “It’s becoming a
dangerous world and the seeds the President unknowningly [sic] or not
has sown are going to bear bitter fruit and kill many.”
