You’d have to be a bit of a drunk to think that the idea of God being more important than the laws of our nation is in any way valid. Fortunately Michelle MacDonald, Republican nominee for the MC Supreme Court is just the drunk for the job!
MacDonald was arrested in April 2013 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a rather disastrous traffic stop. The nominee refused to perform a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer. Despite the smell of alcohol wafting from her vehicle and her insistence that she was a “reserve cop” and a “lawyer,” she claimed she had not been drinking. She has been charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Her trial is scheduled this fall.
MacDonald did not inform Delegates of her legal troubles. However, she did tell them about JESUS! At the May 30, 2014 GOP convention in Rochester, she explained that, “when judges used to enter the courtroom, they would hold a Bible over their head, like this,” then held a Bible over her head to demonstrate the concept.
She continued, not quoting George Washington but pretending she was anyway, “In the words of George Washington,” she said, “it is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” George Washington, of course, did not say this.
However, facts are not important to the right-wing, so her misuse of the quote went unchallenged. She concluded, “God bless you, God bless your children, God bless your families, and let’s all ask God to bless America again.”
After drunkie’s speech, the state GOP chair asked if anyone supported her candidacy. Of course, thanks to her frequent mention of JESUS, she clinched that easily to tumultuous applause–and so, MN now has a Judicial nominee whose trial will be shortly before the election.
