This lady is proof why no one should ever vote Republican again

There is no better evidence of the disease infecting the Republican party than Louisiana state Rep. Lenar Whitney, who is running for Congress this year.

Whitney, you see, is a climate-change-truther — and a birther to boot.

To her credit, Whitney is trying to jump-start her dead-in-the-water campaign by pulling a Palin. She figures if she says something crazy enough, she can get folks on the left to talk about her, and that this will buttress her support with the typical GOP base voters who tend to favor crazy.

And she’s probably right.

But the reason I don’t mind fanning Whitney’s flames is because people like her are going to be, are already proving to be, the death of the Republican party. The crazy runs deeps in the GOP base, and it’s a huge turn off to younger voters and Independents alike.

Whitney may fashion herself as the southern Sarah Palin, but keep in mind that Sarah Palin may have been the first vice presidential nominee in history to actually have an effect on the ticket. And in her case, she drove John McCain’s presidential aspirations into the mud.

So I say we give Lenar Whitney all the attention she wants. Show younger voters, and women, and Latinos, and African-Americans and gays, and everyone else who has eyes to see and ears to hear, exactly what has become of the Grand Old Party.

Then watch them vote for Democrats the rest of their lives.
