Benham twins: We’re like ISIS victims because our TV show was cancelled

We have gotten used to Religious Right activists compare themselves to Jews living under Nazi Germany, but David and Jason Benham took a new approach at the Values Voter Summit Friday night and compared themselves to victims of the terrorist group ISIS.

The Benham twins, of course, were referring to how they lost their planned HGTV reality show after we reported on their anti-gay, anti-choice and anti-Muslim political activism.

In their speech to the summit, the Benham twins argued that just as ISIS beheads their victim with a sword, progressive groups like Right Wing Watch “silence” conservatives by quoting them verbatim.

Jason Benham kicked it off by likening himself and his brother to Jesus Christ — a theme throughout their speech — and later David said that Christians in America are facing persecution just like Christians in the Mideast who are coming under attack from violent groups such as ISIS.

“There is a radical agenda that has come in our nation,” David explained, “the weapon of choice for the agenda in the Middle East is a sword, but the weapon of choice for the agenda in America is silence. They demand silence.”

Far-Right Activist Walid Shoebat: ISIS Promoting The 'Homosexual Agenda'

Walid Shoebat, a Palestinian American who converted from Islam and a former Muslim Brotherhood member, has claimed that ISIS is promoting the “homosexual agenda” by raping men and using recordings to blackmail them, reports Right Wing Watch.

Shoebat was writing on BarbWire, the virulently homophobic website belonging to anti-gay wingnut Matt Barber.

Referring to a documentary broadcast on August 27th on the Kurdish station STERK TV in which ISIS members claim that the group has been raping and gang raping men in a ceremony it describes as "marriage” and using the footage to force them to join the terrorist group, Shoebat inexplicably states that the terrorist group’s use of rape as a weapon “is truly the manifestation of the purest form of the homosexual agenda.”

Oddly referring to “human rights” to show that rapes and gang rapes are used “to assassinate [victims] while they are still alive”, Shoebat of course makes no coherent argument - in fact no argument at all - to back up his ridiculous, inflammatory and vile opinions connecting homosexuality with rape.

ISIL Compares Gays to Pedophiles, Says They Are The 'Worst of Creatures'

The Islamic State of Iraq and The Levant, the unrecognized jihadist terrorist group operating Iraq and Syria, has made effective use of social media to disseminate its propagandistic messages. Since August the extremist group has released videos depicting the beheadings of James Foley and Steven Sotloff, two American journalists as well as David C. Haines, a British aid worker.

The organization has consistently released videos encouraging its members to remain steadfast to the ISIL cause and remain wary of danger “kafir,” Western infidel, influences like drug dealers, pedophiles, and gay people. The West and non-Muslim countries, an ISIL fundamentalist claims in one of the group’s more recent videos, is targeting Muslim children.

“If you have family in these kafir countries, what is gonna happen most probably? You don’t have control of your children. Maybe in some of the countries it is a must for you to put your children in the kafir schools, and who’s gonna teach your children? It’s gonna be maybe a gay, maybe a drug dealer, maybe a pedophile, you know? So it’s very important for you to protect your children from these animals, from these dirty people, Allah says that they are the worst of creatures.”

Initial reports claimed that the masked ISIL fighter speaking in the video was a disaffected Arsenal soccer player who had left his life in Portugal to pursue ISIL’s cause. British intelligence subsequently identified the man as Celso Rodrigues da Costa, a 29 year old man from Portugal who had moved to England to pursue his studies.

“[ISIL] is recognized by no government, nor the people it subjugates,” President Obama said during a speech explaining the US’s plan to combat the terrorist group. “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.”

Well, America…we may not be breaking any world records in education, life expectancy, happiness, economic stability, or advancement of society as a whole, but America’s Conservatives can certainly claim at least one trophy for the mantlepiece: Our violent right-wing hate groups are now officially the WORLD STANDARD in Violent Right-Wing Hate Groups. Actually…sorry. This is really, completely not funny. Especially in light of the article we posted just yesterday, regarding America’s newest potential ISIS equivalent, the League of the South. In that article, we compared the neo-nazi, Klan-centric LOS and its leaders to Bin Laden and his group. And it seems we anonymous internet writers (shockingly) aren’t the only ones to have noticed.

Indeed, Dr. Eren Tatari, assistant professor of Middle East Politics, Muslims in Western Politics and Islam at Indiana’s Bloomington University recently compared, not the Klan to ISIS, but ISIS to The Klan. Speaking of ISIS:

“Their identity exists only in opposition to something else, in other words, they exist to be against something. It is mind-blowing to others how anyone can be a member of KKK or Tamil Tigers (Sri Lanka militants) or other organizations that carry out atrocities and whose mission is hate and destruction.”

Yes, America.

To understand ISIS, you need understand the KKK.

But that wasn’t the only point Prof Tatari made regarding ISIS. A good portion of her assessment was given regarding the self-declared caliphate if the IS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. For those unfamiliar with Islam, a “Caliph” is the chief Muslim civil and religious ruler, said to be a direct inheritor of Mohammed’s authority. The Western equivalent might be the Pope about 500 years ago. The Caliph, then isn’t just the ruler of a Muslim nation — he’s the ruler of every Muslim nation.

To understand ISIS, you must then imagine Cliven Bundy, crowning himself Pope of the World.

But a Caliph isn’t self-appointed; much like a Pope in the Catholic church, he is elected to office. And Muslims take that a step further, because a caliph is not only voted upon by the higher-ups in the organization, but is appointed by consensus of those under his potential rule. Which we must say sounds, comparatively speaking, impressively democratic.

And it is for that democratic violation that Tatari calls out not only Pope of the World Cliven al-Baghdadi, but those under his command:

“The followers he attracts are only the ignorant Muslims who do not know their religion. No individual can declare themselves to be the leader of a Muslim community (caliphate). “

ISIS is attracting people, especially the youth, due to their lack of knowledge of Islam,” he said. “The youth who are trained in general sciences, but not adequately trained in Islamic knowledge in schools and universities, the youth who need financial support. Hardly any students and scholars of Islam would be attracted to ISIS ideology and strategy.”

She goes further, making a prediction about the future of ISIS and its caliph:

“Their pseudo claim to caliphate is hence a bitter joke to the wider Muslim community and has no foreseeable future.”

So, let’s review:

• Everything we said in yesterday’s article
• A religious extremist group that attract ignorant, violent people who don’t understand or follow the principles of their own religion.
• An illegitimate claim to religious or social authority, recognized by no one other than themselves.
• A long history of violence against minority groups, or even voices of reason within their own ranks.
• Homophobia, xenophobia, misogyny, racism, nationalism, delusions of grandeur, assumed authority, fascism and every other earmark of your standard social conservative.
• Beards.Wow.

We condemn ISIS’ public beheadings, but in 2012-13, our allies in Saudi Arabia cut the heads off of 79 people.

Let’s play “Compare and Contrast” for a moment: Two oppressive, authoritarian Muslim regimes acting under the auspices of Sharia Law publicly behead scores of non-violent people, primarily to instill fear in those who might resist said regime’s self-asserted authority over the region.

People whose heads are cut off are disproportionately foreign nationals, or locals with religious or ideological differences. One of them is ISIS, the other is the government of Saudi Arabia. Which one are we bombing again?

In 2012 and 2013, Saudi Arabia cut the heads off of 79 people for various “crimes” throughout the nation, and it looks like they’re trying to hit the same target this year. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a slowdown earlier in the year, so Saudi Arabia is doing its best to catch up and maintain its previous record.
