Last night Lawrence O'Donnell pointed out on his show that quite possibly there is a legitimate reason why it seems that Tea Party groups were targeted for additional scrutiny by the I.R.S. It could be that the I.R.S. was doing its job. The I.R.S. is supposed to make sure that groups applying for tax-free status are legitimately entitled to that status. That year there were more Tea Party groups applying so of course there would be more scrutiny for them because simply there were more of them to be selected for the more intensive look.
