Cliven Bundy Now Encouraging Lunatic Followers to Trample Through Navajo Nation Sites

When the Cliven Bundy story first hit, I felt that he epitomizes almost everything that’s wrong with the conservative movement.  And I still stand by that belief.  He’s an anti-government hypocrite who’s essentially pissed off because he’s been found guilty (by four different courts) of violating federal law by allowing his cattle to graze on land he doesn’t own.

To put this guy’s idiocy into perspective, Glenn Beck has said he’s guilty of violating the law.  If Glenn Beck is siding with the federal government over some anti-government conservative, you know that person must be pretty damn insane.
Yet despite this guy’s insanity, he still has quite the following among the anti-government crowd who seemingly like to show off the fact that they don’t understand how our Constitution works or the powers it gives our federal government.  That’s essentially what all of this is rooted in – ignorance.  But then again, most conservative ideology is rooted in ignorance so it shouldn’t be all that surprising.
Well, his most recent display of ignorance is his support for an illegal ATV ride that took place yesterday in Utah’s Recapture Canyon.  The Navajo Nation condemned the ride as well, as it put Native American burial sites and other cultural resources at risk.
The ride was heavily supported by local San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman, who’s cut from the same anti-government mold as our dear welfare rancher Bundy.
Bundy sent an email encouraging his followers to take up with Lyman, saying, “We need to help the people of Blanding re-establish who is in control of the land.  This is your next stand.  Will you be there to help them like you helped us?”
These actions are part of a fringe movement within some of these states to illegally seize federal lands.  Because, you know, these people are such “patriots” that they like to ignore the power given to the federal government via our Constitution and do whatever they think should be legal.  Even if that means trampling all over Navajo Nation sites with their ATV’s and putting sacred artifacts at risk.
How pathetic do you have to be to cry about “reclaiming land” while illegally using sacred Native American land to make your point?  These people are disgusting.  From wanting to use women as human shields against the BLM, to threatening federal workers, and now trampling through land that’s off limits and contains sacred Navajo sites.
But this is what many conservatives really have been hoping for.  A bunch of armed anti-government lunatics going around the country, violating federal laws, essentially saying, “I don’t recognize the federal government’s authority, therefore I’m not breaking the law.”
My only thought is that the federal government cannot continue to allow this to go on.  Last month the Bureau of Land Management backed down from these wannabe G.I. Joes and it’s emboldened these lunatics even further.  If the government continues to allow these people to brazenly violate federal law without any kind of consequences, this kind of behavior is only going to become more frequent and more radical.
