Bad News For Republicans: New Poll Shows More Americans Support Obamacare Than Oppose It

Poll: Americans are behind Obamacare.

The newly released poll reveals that Obamacare now has more support than opposition. For the first time, President Obama’s signature health care law has turned the numbers around. 49 percent back it while 48 percent oppose. The overall poll is close, but looking deeper into the results tells an interesting story.

Conservative support for Obamacare has doubled since November.

As it turns out, support for Obamacare has risen across party lines. In just the last three months alone, support for the law has risen among Democrats from 65 percent to 76 percent. Support for Obamacare has slightly dropped among Republicans and Independents. But, in a surprising twist, support for the law has actually risen among conservatives. Yes, I said conservatives. Since November, the percent of conservatives who support the Affordable Care Act has more than doubled. 36 percent of them back it compared to only 17 percent five months ago. It looks like a lot of conservatives actually like having affordable health care.

7.1 million Americans are covered by Obamacare despite GOP doomsday claims.

This is fantastic news for Democrats as the 2014 midterm election approaches. Despite all of the apocalyptic claims that the GOP has repeated about the law since 2010, it’s clearly becoming more popular. More than 7 million Americans have signed up for coverage since the law took effect. The law has also created hundreds of thousands of jobs. Even Disney World employees are feeling the positive effects of Obamacare. And even though all of their doomsday claims have been debunked, Republicans are burying their heads in the sand rather than admitting they were wrong.

The fact is, 7.1 million Americans no longer have to worry about going bankrupt if they get sick. As the law continues to cover more and more people, it is likely to get even more popular as time goes by. Polls will eventually show Obamacare with the same kind of support that Medicare and Medicaid currently enjoy. At some point, the GOP will have to abandon their anti-Obamacare stance to avoid peril at the ballot box.

The true apocalypse will occur in red states where Republicans reject Obamacare.

This is especially true in red states, where GOP governors have prevented their own residents from accessing health coverage. Studies show that thousands of Americans will die needlessly in red states because of GOP opposition to Obamacare. The GOP is literally willing to sacrifice the lives of their own constituents. As Americans in these states suffer, the GOP should expect a backlash unlike any they have ever experienced. If anything will spur people to vote against the GOP in these states, it’s the deaths of loved ones that could have been prevented. The impending death toll in red states is the true apocalypse that is going to occur. And it will be 100 percent caused by Republicans.

Voting Against Their Own Interests: The Common Story of the Republican Voter

I want to tell you the story of Susie Q. Conservative.

Susie’s parents were from the rural South.  They were raised in households that had strong religious beliefs, opposed sex education and preached waiting till marriage before having sex.

Of course, as it is with many young people, Susie’s parents didn’t wait till marriage.  They were young, in love and one night just after graduating high school, one of their sexual encounters resulted in an unplanned pregnancy.

Coming from the background which Susie’s parents came from, abortion was never an option.  Instead, these two young individuals got married and prepared for their upcoming baby.

Susie’s father decided to drop out of college to work more, but still struggled to make enough to pay all of their bills.  Susie’s mother worked for a short time, but after a few months into her pregnancy, health issues became a factor and she was no longer able to work.  This left Susie’s father as the lone bread winner, which made financial situations even tougher for the couple.
Susie’s parents had no choice but to seek out government programs to help them pay for prenatal care, medical expenses and even food. Unable to afford 2 vehicles, and being that Susie’s dad was always traveling to work (on public roads), her mother relied on public transportation to often run errands and get to her doctors appointments.

Then the day arrives when Susie is born.  While still on cloud nine after the birth of their daughter, Susie’s parents quickly realize the financial burden of being new parents to an unplanned baby is overwhelming.  They turn to Medicaid to help pay medical expenses and utilize almost all means of welfare available for low-income new parents.

Luckily for them, having a child provides them with a plethora of tax deductions Susie’s parents can utilize to gain incredible tax breaks for their family.

After a few years, Susie is now ready to start school.  Her mother hasn’t been able work since she was born due to the incredibly high costs of daycare, but she has managed to take a few classes thanks to Pell Grants she received.

Susie attends public school her entire pre-adult life, where she usually rode the bus to school and received free meals for lunch.  Soon after Susie started school her mother worked on finishing an Associates Degree from a local community college and eventually got a job with the city.

Her father continued to work for a blue-collar wage, only a few dollars more per hour than he made when she was born.  He’s an honorable man who should be paid more than he is, yet his lack of an education — due to the fact he’s had to constantly work his whole life because he fathered a child at a young age — prevented him from ever getting an education.

Finally, Susie is off to college.  She first attends the same community college her mother attended, qualifying for Pell Grants due to her family’s extremely low level of income.

After 2 years, she transfers to a state university where she continues to use Pell Grants, as well as federal student loans, to help pay for her educational expenses and her cost of living.

While away at school, Susie uses Interstate Highways to travel back home to visit her parents.

During her senior year of college her dad suffers a tragic accident at which he is left disabled and unable to work, relying only on disability benefits to survive.

Soon after graduation, Susie gets a decent paying job working for the state and becomes involved in politics.
One day, Susie is asked to give a speech which went like this:

“I, Susie Q. Conservative, stand before you today an independent woman.  A woman who sees the evils of the invasive government.  I see the liberal agenda which seeks to make Americans dependent on the system and replaces hard work with a government handout.  I stand before you today a self-made individual.  Through hard work and dedication I made it to where I am today on my own.  I’ve never once needed a government handout nor asked for a free ride.  Our government spends too much and far too many depend on the system instead of taking personal responsibility for themselves.  It’s time we stand up to government and declare once and for all, “We can do it on our own, we don’t need your help!”

If you’ve ever spent time trying to discuss politics with a Republican you’ve probably noticed that there are several different types of Republicans, all with their own unique debating style. In this article I’m going to attempt to break down the seven types of Republicans, what’s wrong with their views, and how you should debate them. I’ll start with the most intelligent, and work my way down.

The Educated Republicans:
These are the rarest of all Republicans. Occasionally you will run into one in public or in a public forum online. These Republicans can be the most difficult to deal with. They have learned everything there is to know about their position… from a Republican perspective. They’ve educated themselves on all the reasons why their position is correct, and are not concerned with anything that contradicts their beliefs.
The problem with this type of Republican’s views:
Anyone with the Internet and five minutes can find something that thoroughly discredits their version of the “facts.” Even when confronted with contradictory facts, they continue to fall back on their original arguments; try to change the subject to something they are more comfortable talking about, or start expressing opinions with no factual merit.
What to remember when debating them:
Keep them on-topic. Don’t let them ignore your counterpoints and then change the subject on you. They’re masters of that, but if you can keep them on topic, eventually they will just start expressing opinions to which you can say “do you have any facts to back that up?”

Congressman who used to be a high school English teacher irks GOP by marking their memos with a red pen

Hoping that members of the House of Representatives will start using facts and coherent logic to advance the nation's interest is still a fool's errand, but there's one member of Congress, Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA), who's willing to at least pretend it's possible. Breaking out the teacher's most potent weapon, a red pen, he marked up Republican House members' letter to John Boehner forcing asking him to resist the immigration reform bill that has already passed America's slightly-less-insane upper chamber. Included in his comments are some words we haven't seen on a Congressional document in years, like "evidence," as well as an awesome invitation to "come by my office" if "you don't understand the bill."

Frankly, my favorite part is pointing out that given a proper word count, the bill is only 286 pages long. Why do I like this? Because "it's too long to read" is one of the GOP's new favorite reasons not to support things, which really does not help their anti-intellectual image. Obamacare, hate it or tolerate it, had about as many words as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, not that Congresspeople read at that grade level. Can we at least agree that Congress shouldn't sound so afraid of reading?

Congress is pretty much the least-popular thing in America, which is impressive in the land of Honey Boo-Boo and Chris Brown. If there's one kind of person who isn't afraid to do their job in the face of massive unpopularity, though, it's a high-school teacher.

Is Your Congressman Co-Sponsoring A New Amendment Banning Gay Marriage?

There are 29 Republicans who just became the most anti-gay Congressmen in America. After the Supreme Court last week ruled that DOMA is unconstitutional, Republican Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) introduced a bill proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would forever ban same-sex marriage across the nation. The bill now has 28 co-sponsors.

The bill’s introduction is a staggeringly stupid idea that could only come from a Republican, and only from a member of Congress. The bill is akin the the GOP’s 38 repeated attempts to repeal Obamacare — and it will never garner a supermajority of two-thirds of both houses of Congress, nor will it ever win the three-fourths majority of all state legislatures it requires to actually amend our Constitution, which is something that hasn’t been done — even in less polarized times — since 1992, and that amendment, the 27th, was introduced in 1789.
(To be historically fair, the 26th Amendment, allowing the right to vote at the age of 18, was introduced and passed in the same year — 1971.)
So, the Supreme Court rules that DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 that banned the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages, is unconstitutional.
Two days later, Rep. Huelskamp introduces a bill that supposedly will amend the constitution to make only “one-man, one-woman” marriages legal, because, you know, religious freedom, liberty, and protecting civilization.
He picks up 28 co-sponsors — all Republicans, of course — for the bill, House Joint Resolution 51.
