Scott Lively Says New HRC Report ​'Is Trying To Incite Murder Against Me'

Recently, the Human Rights Campaign released a report entitled "Exposed: The Export of Hate," which sought to expose the "network of American extremists who work tirelessly to undercut LGBT people around the world at every turn":

They spew venomous rhetoric, outrageous theories, and discredited science. Some claim that LGBT people are responsible for the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide, and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Others argue that LGBT people are luring away children, and that acceptance of LGBT people will lead to the destruction of families around the world. Some even suggest that the death penalty could be an appropriate punishment for simply being LGBT.

Scott Lively was naturally at the top of HRC's list as a result of his years of viciously anti-gay activism and the key role he has played in promoting the passage of anti-gay laws in places like Uganda and Russia, and he is not happy about it, responding with a column in which he accuses HRC of "trying to incite murder against me":

[T]hings have changed in recent years. Their man is in the White House. The federal judiciary is now packed with a majority of pro-“gay” Democrats. They’ve got the media, academia, Hollywood, the big corporations, the mental health associations and even the U.S. military under their thumb. Their movement is steam-rolling over all political opposition even in conservative states, DESPITE public opinion. 

The greater their power, the less they are concerned about hiding the true nature of their agenda or the true face of the LGBT community. 

Frankly, that dramatically raises the threat level for people like me. Because, as the “gays” lose their fear of public opinion, they are increasingly less inclined to restrain the murder that is in their hearts toward their enemies, the chief of whom is now Yours Truly.

Historic ruling: Judge orders anti-gay Scott Lively to stand trial for crimes against humanity

Extremist anti-gay US pastor is accused of engineering the Uganda 'Kill The Gays' bill, saying LGBT people are the 'new Nazis' and recommending Russia's 'gay propaganda' laws 

For the first time, a federal US judge has ruled a persecution of LGBT people is a crime against humanity.

This sets a precedent ensuring the fundamental human rights of LGBTI people are protected under international law.

It comes as a Ugandan LGBTI advocacy organization filed a lawsuit against prominent US anti-gay extremist Scott Lively.

Accused of helping to play a part in the persecution, arrest and murder of gay people in Uganda, Lively’s lawyers requested to dismiss the lawsuit.

Michael Ponsor, the US District Judge in Springfield, Massachusetts, said: ‘Widespread, systematic persecution of LGBTI people constitutes a crime against humanity that unquestionably violates international norms.’

‘The history and current existence of discrimination against LGBTI people is precisely what qualifies them as a distinct targeted group eligible for protection under international law.

‘The fact that a group continues to be vulnerable to widespread, systematic persecution in some parts of the world simply cannot shield one who commits a crime against humanity from liability.’

The lawsuit states Lively collaborated with key Ugandan government officials and religious leaders that allegedly resulted in the introduction of the ‘Kill The Gays’ bill.

The founder of Abiding Truth Ministries, Lively has made a career of stirring up anti-gay feelings in the USA and across the world.

He co-authored The Pink Swastika, which suggests ‘homosexuals were the truth inventors of Nazism and the guiding force behind many Nazi atrocities’ and the rainbow flag is a symbol of the ‘end times’.

In 2007, Lively also toured 50 cities in Russia where he is accused of recommending a ban on 'gay propaganda'.

Frank Mugisha, director of Sexual Minorities Uganda, said: ‘Today’s ruling is a significant victory for human rights everywhere but most especially for LGBTI Ugandans who are seeking accountability from those orchestrating our persecution.’

While the court battle is certainly not over, it will allow the Ugandan group to seek justice for what they believe Lively has done.

US law allows foreign citizens to sue for violations of international law in US federal courts under the Alien Tort Statute.

On Sunday, Britain’s Channel 4 profiled American evangelical hatemonger Scott Lively and his role in helping Uganda pass its brutal anti-gay law last month. 

Lively, who is currently running for governor of Massachusetts, is shown in the video linking gays to pedophilia, the Holocaust and Rwandan Genocide and calling President Obama a "homosexualist" who "may well be a homosexual himself."

But Lively maintains throughout the interview that his views and activism haven't contributed to any anti-gay hysteria in Uganda...

Pastor Scott Lively is calling for a boycott of Chick-fil-A.

 

In 2012, Dan Cathy, the president and COO of the giant Chick-fil-A fast-food retailer, gave an interview in which he said he was “guilty as charged” for being “very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit.” Cathy spent the next year being the golden boy of the religious right, after making even more biblically-based anti-gay comments, like, “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say ‘we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”

Soon, every religious right wing nut, from Sarah Palin to Mike Huckabee to the National Organization For Marriage was out supporting Dan Cathy and buying as many Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches as they could eat.

Huckabee even created a Chick-fil-A appreciation day that August, because he was “incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld.”

(Of course, Cathy isn’t the CEO, but facts never got in Mike Huckabee’s way.)

Recently, Cathy noted that it was a “mistake” to put his personal, biblical beliefs into the public square while speaking in his role as one of the heads of his family’s business, Chick-fil-A.

Today, Pastor Scott Lively writes that Dan Cathy “became a great hero to Bible-believing Christians by refusing to back down when the homo-fascists demanded he retract pro-family statements in 2012.”

In a column titled “Dan Cathy Takes The Mark Of The Beast” at Matt Barber‘s new ultra-conservative religious right tabloid, BarbWire, Lively writes that while that “headline is not true,” (then why print it, Matt?) Cathy “has done something that suggests he might be willing to take [the mark of the beast] if faced with that choice.”

The mark of the beast is often associated with the anti-Christ, or other spiritual anti-Christian beings, and extreme Christianists often associate everything, from barcodes and microchips to business licenses with it.

How quickly the religious right turns on its own. Cathy didn’t say he supports same-sex marriage, nor did he denounce his belief in “traditional marriage.”

All he said was that he understands that “others feel very different” from the way he feels, and added, “I respect their opinion.”

For that, Scott Lively and Matt Barber’s BarbWire try to suggest Dan Cathy has earned the “mark of the beast,” or whatever — what do you call it when you print a headline that says that, then renounce it in your opening sentence?

Lively, who, as you know is on trial for crimes against humanity in a U.S. federal court for antigay “work” in Uganda, also says in his op-ed today:

Nobody knows better than I do the price that one pays for standing up to the LGBT bullies. They are not only vindictive and relentless, they are also very creative in their methods of harassment. And there is an entire army of them ready to pounce on anyone who crosses them. I am absolutely certain that they tried their best to make Dan Cathy’s life a constant, living hell since 2012.

I am convinced that God is using the homosexual issue as a test of believers all over the world.

I’m not saying that Dan Cathy isn’t saved, but he has certainly failed the stress test, and failed the Bible-believing Christian remnant everywhere, by surrendering to the “gay” bullies. How long before we see Chick Fil A running “gay”-friendly commercials as penance for Cathy‘s “homophobia?”

Lively closes with this:

“In my mind’s eye I used to see the Mark of the Beast as a black dot on the back of the hand. Now it looks more like a Chik Fil A [sic] sandwich. I’ll never buy another one, and I hope you won’t either.”

Religious liberty is becoming bastardized by the religious right.

Scott Lively Blames Gays For Ukraine Crisis

Criminal against humanity Scott Lively has taken to World Net Daily to write about the crisis in Ukraine and how, somehow, it's the fault of gays and the gay rights movement. He wrote, in part,

And this is why the greatest point of conflict between the U.S. and Russia is the question of homosexuality. (I believe even the conflict in Ukraine is being driven to a large extent by this issue, at least on the part of the Obama State Department and the homosexualist leaders of the EU.)

I ask you, which is the greater threat to human rights: Russia’s law preventing homosexual activists from disseminating their propaganda to children, or the lawless decrees of these American federal judges? I submit that the former is not a threat at all, but a reaffirmation of true human rights (in that case the right of parents to raise their children according to their own values), while the latter is an egregious affront to liberty and an undermining of respect for the rule of law, which endangers all human rights.

Such are the informed words of the man who says that gays were Nazis and the ones really behind the Holocaust.

Russian Gay Activist Disrupts Scott Lively’s Speech at Anti-LGBT Event in D.C

At a ‘pro-family’ press conference in D.C. on Friday, evangelist Scott Lively was caught on camera being heckled by Viacheslav Revin, a Russian gay activist and refugee in the U.S.

Revin disrupted Scott Lively’s presentation and made a statement with a help of Ellen Sturtz translating his speech into English:

"Homophobia is a first step toward dictatorship! Putin is a dictator who condemned to death thousands of orphaned children by banning foreign adoptions. Putin is a corrupted thief who invents scapegoats and deflects attention from his crimes. His latest invention is the anti-gay law, so gays in modern Russia feel like jews back in the USSR. Declaring support for Putin means denying the democracy and demanding racial segregation. This is what Putin doing in Russia now in regards to gays and migrant workers from Central Asia."

Lively's speech was intended to announce the creation of the Coalition for Family Values, which includes Peter LaBarbera, Linda Harvey, and others dedicated to “confronting LGBT agenda” and supporting the Russian government’s anti-gay efforts.

Anti-Gay Pastor Announces Plans to Run for Governor of Massachusetts

Controversial anti-gay pastor Scott Lively announced on Monday his intentions to run for governor of Massachusetts. This announcement comes less than two weeks after the fundamentalist pastor publicly claimed in an interview with NBC News that he was responsible for helping pass Russia’s "homosexual propaganda" law.

"The people of this state need a candidate who can clearly and unapologetically articulate Biblical values without fear or compromise. They need a candidate who will tell the simple truth that abortion is murder, and homosexuality is condemned by God (but that Jesus forgives and heals those who repent)." Lively said in a press release issued by his ministry yesterday, lamenting that "Massachusetts is the bluest of the blue states: the first to adopt socialized medicine and "gay marriage," the national model for promoting homosexuality to children in the public schools, and the most aggressive defender of child-killing through abortion."

American anti-gay evangelist Scott Lively, who is on trial for crimes against humanity, and who we've written about many times on this site, sat down with NBC News for an interview about Russia's anti-gay laws.

He takes credit for them:

“Yes, I think I influenced the Russian law,” Lively said. While some gay rights activists still think he’s just a laughingstock, Boris Dittrich, the director of LGBT advocacy for Human Rights Watch, tends to confirm Lively’s claims. Russia was plenty homophobic before Lively’s arrival but the American pastor appears to have given shape to that free-floating hatred, Dittrich said. As he passed through Russia’s regions, Lively met with politicians and bans on homosexual propaganda followed, spreading to more than a half-dozen areas before Putin swept them into a national standard.

Lively — who calls himself the “father” of Uganda’s anti-gay movement — also shared the first sharp details of his work in Eastern Europe and responded to the rise in hate crimes that seems to follow him around the globe.

NBC posted two clips of Lively speaking at a Watchment on the Walls conference in Novobsibirsk, Russia's third-largest city, in August 2007 where he spoke to 1,000 Christians:

“There is a war that is going on in the world,” Lively said through a translator. “There is a war that is waging across the entire face of the globe. It’s been waging in the United States for decades, and it’s been waging in Europe for decades. It’s a war between Christians and homosexuals.”

NBC goes on to describe Lively's other anti-gay crusades abroad, and the lawsuit that could put a halt to them:

Pamela Spees, an attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights, the group pursuing Lively for alleged “crimes against humanity” in Uganda, said she is prepared to file a second lawsuit related to his work in Russia and the surrounding countries, assuming there’s evidence that Lively was “an architect of the persecutory program” there.

And that’s why the case against Lively is so important, gay-rights activists say. As the Olympics draw nearer and the boycotts and homophobic backlash continue, Putin will be the guy paraded down the world’s front pages and social media feeds. But Lively may be the secret agent to watch.

If he loses his lawsuit he could be prohibited from spreading his message abroad, a terrible precedent for other anti-gay crusaders. However if he wins, he emerges stronger than ever, the self-described “hero” of an expanding fight to restore “godliness to society,” as he puts it – or else “pull as many people as possible into the lifeboat before the ship goes down.”
