Fabulous Response

It’s a disgusting attack on sexuality that could have ruined Christmas.

But somehow these victims found a funny side – and crafted a brilliant response to the person who carved ‘faggots’ on to their door.

They sanded away the abusive graffiti and stuck a hilarious note aimed at the bigot in its place.

It read: ‘We regret to inform you that you completely failed to use glitter paint and/or sequins, your work looked rushed, and your handwriting was positively atrocious.

‘It is for these reasons that we had to remove your work from our door with sandpaper.

‘Fabulously yours, The Gays in Apt. 611.’

7 BIBLE QUOTES SUPPORTING GAY RELATIONSHIPS

Popular YouTube lesbian vlogger Arielle Scarcella is back with a slightly different video this week that takes a look at what the Bible really has to say about same-sex relationships.

In "7 Bible Quotes In Support Of Same Sex Relationships," Scarcella is joined by openly gay and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) activist Matthew Vines for some expert perspective. Vines, who recently released his book God and the Gay Christian, is perhaps best known for the viral YouTube video "The Gay Debate: The Bible and Homosexuality."

"Sexual orientation is a pretty new concept," Vines notes in the above video. "Christians in the past tended to see same-sex behavior as a vice of excess like gluttony or drunkenness, not as a sexual orientation that can be expressed in loving, committed ways. So Christians don't have to reject their faith's tradition in order to accept same-sex relationships."

A Gay Dad’s Letter to the Anti-Gay, Mother’s Day Slushie Victim

Thanks to the television show Glee, the slushie has been elevated from an overly sugary refreshment to an act of public humiliation.  Not since a cream pie hit the face of Anita Bryant, has a caloric treat wielded such stature.
Previously, the slushie had been confined to fictional encounters.  It has now entered our reality.  On Mother’s Day 2014, a young woman named Jessica Prince became so irate that she felt compelled to throw a red slushie at an anti-gay protestor.  You might call it, The Slushie Heard Around the World.  The slushie  actually only grazed the woman, but splashed her enough that those who repeated the tale use the term “doused”.
The protestor, Christine Weick, instantly brandished pepper spray. Jessica Prince flipped her off from a safe distance.   The stand off dissipated, but news of it had only just begun.
Conservatives like blogger Dan Calabrese decided that the slushie  toss was not the reaction of a lone pissed off young woman, but an orchestrated effort by all of “the secular left”.   The “secular left”. he says. “clearly believes it has the upper hand in the cultural debate, and it has absolutely no intention of tolerating dissent. Not only that, but it views those who challenge its orthodoxy as basically sub-human, to the point where an action like this one is justified in their minds.”
Mass left-wing conspiracy theories not withstanding, as a gay dad, I would tell Ms. Prince the same thing I have to remind my son Jesse when he gets angry at school, and acts out.  It usually goes something like this:
“OK Pal, so who was first in the wrong?”   “They were.”  “What did you do about it?”  “I threw something at them.”  “Was that a good idea?  Whose action was worse, and who got in trouble?”  “No, my action was worse, and I got in trouble.”   “Not a great choice then, was it, huh?”  “No.”
So—quick note to Ms. Prince.  Let’s re-think the slushie and remember that it is the tool of the BULLIES on Glee, not the good guys.
In such incidents at school, Jesse is charged with resolving the situation.  That often includes composing a letter to the person he harmed, and taking responsibility for his actions.  It can, ideally, be a tool to make amends.  Ms. Prince seems a capable young woman and I do not mean to detract from her own restitution, but since people like Mr. Calabrese have swept all of us who witnessed the event into his broad brush of blame, I figured I would chime in:

Nike Designer Says Marty McFly's Power Laces Are Coming Next Year

If there was one disappointment about Nike's awesome Back to the Future II Air Mag, it's that the shoes didn't have Marty's power laces (and that they only made 1,500 and neither you nor I own a pair). But Nike designer Tinker Hatfield says that's about to change—power laces are coming in 2015. The future is here!

Yes, as Sole Collector tells it, designer Tinker Hatfield showed up at the Jordan Brand's Flight Lab space in New Orleans yesterday. When asked about power laces, his answer was pretty unequivocal:
"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!"
Sole Collector points out that Hatfield didn't specify whether power laces will show up on the Nike Mag, or some other product, but who cares? POWER LACES PEOPLE. And there's some meaningful chronology here: Marty's self-lacing sneaks, you'll recall were from the year 2015.
Was Nike holding out, making sure they didn't create a time paradox that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe? If so, smart move. 2015 is gonna be awesome.

A Random Act Of Kindness Goes Viral: This DQ Manager Did The Right Thing

Photo of teenaged Dairy Queen manager Joey Prusak.
This modest, mid-western, teenaged Dairy Queen manager meant to keep his good deed quiet, but one of his customers reported him. Photo from WCCO TV.

Just another late August day at the Hopkins, MN Dairy Queen turned into an opportunity for one man to do the right thing. Manager Joey Prusak was working the cash register and taking orders when a moral dilemma presented itself.

He was helping a blind man at the counter when his customer dropped a $20 bill as he was paying. Prusak saw the woman behind his customer stoop down and scoop the bill up. He says he thought she was going to return it to the blind customer but what she did next made Prusak angry:
“I expected to her to be like ‘Oh, sir, here you go.’ But she just stood there and watched him walk by and she then put it in her purse.”
When the woman approached the counter, Prusak asked the her to return the money. She refused, lied and said it was hers, that she had dropped it. They had words. Exasperated, Prusak told the woman to either return the money or leave the store because he was not going to serve someone so disrespectful. She stormed out.

Prusak proceeded to serve his other customers, apologizing for the fracas. When he was done, he found the blind customer and gave him $20 out of his own pocket. He tried to be unobtrusive but another customer had seen the whole thing. She filled out a comment card, praising Joey and writing that she would forever be a Dairy Queen customer. The note made it to corporate headquarters and was shared among employees. One of them took a picture and posted it on Facebook. The rest, as they say, is history.

Prusak is modest about his actions, even after getting a phone call from company owner Warren Buffet:
“He called and thanked me for being a role model for all the other employees and people in general. I was just doing what I thought was right. I did it without even really thinking about it. … Ninety-nine out of 100 people would’ve done the same thing as me.” (source)
The spokesman for Dairy Queen International, Dean Peters, told reporters that the company is trying to figure out a way to reward Prusak. I have a suggestion: since Prusak is trying to save money to attend business management school, maybe Buffet could find him a job at the corporate level while the young man is attending school. What better way to learn business management than from Buffet? No matter what the reward from DQ is, Joe Prusak will always have the reward of knowing that he did the right thing. We need more like him.

It goes without saying that employees should be treated fairly. But sometimes employers need a more blunt lesson in the importance of worker appreciation.

Plenty of us have thought about it, but most of us wouldn’t have the guts to actually go through with it. Three employees of retail store Journeys in Rochester, New York have dramatically quit, leaving a very public sign to their boss as a letter of resignation.

The above photo, which was posted on Reddit Saturday, is a definite wake-up call to all the ungrateful bosses out there. No doubt Jamie will think again before treating his/her staff members badly.
