NOM’s Hate March Media Sponsor Founded By Man Who Married Complete Strangers In Mass Weddings

NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, is holding their annual “March For Marriage,” which is actually a march against gay people and same-sex marriage. They are bussing in hundreds — they’re hoping for and will over-report that it was tens of thousands, maybe they’ll even claim hundreds of thousands — to walk the streets of Washington, D.C. They’ll be brandishing signs and banners that claim, “every child deserves a mom and a dad,” and likely chant that they should be able to vote on our marriages.

The Washington Times is the official media partner of NOM’s hate march. They have an article on their front page hawking the march, and a full four-color 16-page advertising supplement promoting the march, NOM, and anti-gay hate in their newspaper today.

Google “sanctity of marriage” for NOM’s blog and you’ll get about 149 responses. “Holy matrimony” delivers another 23.

“Traditional marriage,” the “sanctity of marriage,” and “holy matrimony.”“The Washington Times is doing its part to promote the event,” Equality Matters reports. “The Times’ website is hosting a NOM-sponsored petition urging readers to sign and ‘stand for traditional marriage,’ instructing the government not to ‘seek to redefine it.’”

And yet NOM chose as their media partner and unofficial news outlet theWashington Times, a publication founded by the founder of the Unification Church, Sun Myung Moon, a man who, until his death in 2010, joined thousands of men and women —who were complete strangers — in holy matrimony. Ah, yes, the sanctity of marrying someone you’ve never met in a mass wedding of thousands upon thousands of people, held not in a church but in a football stadium.

GLAAD and Jeremy Hooper of Good As You were able to obtain the advertising supplement in advance of today’s publication.

Take a look at the ad, above, that NOM is running in the Washington Times.

Hooper did his research. He writes that “the National Organization For Marriage is running a truly disgusting print ad in today’s Washington Times supplement that implies same-sex couples are imposing “moral confusion” on our kids. The stock photo model could not look any more distraught.” And he adds the same stock photo of the child has been used “as a stand-in for hungry kids, abused kids, kids of divorce, kids whose parents are in foreclosure, and more.”
