Sarah Palin: Angry Atheists Want to ‘Abort Christ from Christmas’

Well, the Queen of the Buffoons has struck again, this time chiming in on the right-wing made up “war on Christmas.”  While speaking at the conservative Liberty University, Palin decided to blame atheists for making an issue of separating church and state.

Palin said:

“Thomas Jefferson today, he would recognize those who would want to try to ignore that Jesus is the reason for the season, those who would want to try to abort Christ from Christmas.  He would recognize, for the most part, these are angry atheists armed with an attorney.  They are not the majority of Americans.”

Well, since Palin has a proven history of not knowing a damn thing about history (or much of anything for that matter) let’s just see what Thomas Jefferson actually wrote about the separation of church and state:

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”

It seems pretty clear to me what Thomas Jefferson meant.  Then again, I like to deal in reality, whereas people like Sarah Palin often operate in some delusional realm where what they want to be real is real, and reality is nothing more than some liberally biased fairy tale they refuse to believe.

But what this “war on Christmas” really breaks down to is an excuse for them to turn their attempts at theocracy into a front-page headline for a few weeks out of the year.

The reality is the vast majority of Americans — including liberals — couldn’t care less about people saying “Merry Christmas.”  What we don’t want is the same thing Thomas Jefferson didn’t want, and that’s religion being forcibly injected into our government.

And yes, there are circumstances that happen in this country every year during this time of year where someone makes a big deal about a Christmas celebration or some company letting their employees say, “Merry Christmas.”  Those stories, however, are the handpicked exceptions to the rule, brought to light specifically so idiots like Sarah Palin and the rest of the Fox News lineup have something to point and scream at for cheap outrage.

And with her comments at Liberty University, Palin proved what the vast majority of Americans already knew — that she knows absolutely nothing.
