Too many families are kicking their teenage kids out of their homes in the name of God, and a new Showtime documentary shows the ugly truth behind it. The official trailer of “Kidnapped for Christ” is not only raw and honest, but speaks for thousands of kids who’ve suffered at the hands of radical religious families.
Following the experiences of several American gay teens after they were kidnapped from their homes and shipped to Evangelical Reform schools located in the Dominican Republic, producers hope that the film indicts the tyrannical religious leaders “responsible for destroying so many thousands of lives over the years.”
The doc has been in the works for quite sometime. Produced by Lance Bass, the film had a popular Kickstarter campaign to raise funds and, since it’s been finished, has won the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2014 Slam-dance Film Festival. The movie premieres on Showtime July 10th. Check out a peek below:
