Ever wonder why so many of the most successful NFL teams are from cities you've barely even heard of?

Football, the most red-blooded, all-American, do-or-die, love-it-or-leave-it sport there is was founded on a concept so "un-American," it would make Ronald Reagan turn over in his grave.

Here's how it works.

In baseball, each team essentially operates as its own business.

So some teams — usually the ones from bigger cities with more fans — are richer than others. And the rich teams can spend money on better players, which leads to more championships, which leads to more TV and concession revenue, which leads to even more money and more championships.

It's every man for himself.

In football, it's exactly the opposite.

The 32 teams in the NFL share revenue evenly, and no one team can spend more on players than any other. This leads to much more competitive balance and, some would argue, a better game.

It's "We're all in this together."

New Poll: 81% of MLB Ready for Out Player

Just as the 2014 baseball season is about to begin,ESPN released a new poll that revealed that the majority of baseball players are ready to accept an openly gay player in Major League Baseball.

The poll comes just after New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi stated in February that the MLB would be cool with an out player.

"I think so. I think our world has adjusted to that," Girardi said. "Obviously players want players that are going to help them win championships. That’s what we want.

"You see that there’s a lot of different cultures that come together," he continued. "There’s different ethnic backgrounds, different financial backgrounds. I think players just want to win. Whoever the best players are in that clubhouse, get ’em in here." Full story here via Edge!

Major League Baseball teams under fire from anti-gay fans for taking a stand on LGBT bullying

Major League Baseball teams who showed their support to stop LGBT bullying on Spirit Day have been criticised by homophobic fans.

Several teams, including the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, changed their images on social media to include a purple border to to match the color of Spirit Day.

They also sent out a message on Twitter reading: 'Go purple for #SpiritDay 10/17! Support LGBT youth and stand against bullying. Join us now: http://glaad.org/spiritday'

However, the message to stop anti-gay bullying did not go down well with many baseball fans, who reacted with anger over social media.

Messages on the Facebook group of the Atlanta Braves were particularly homophobic.

One fan said: 'How about leaving politics and promotion of an immoral lifestyle out of baseball. Just because you played like sissies against the Dodgers doesn't mean you have to promote them.'

Another said: 'Well, I pulled my son from Boy Scouts due to their support of homosexuality and now guess I am no longer a Braves fan. And yes I will remove myself and refrain from supporting any organization or people who support LGB groups no matter the age!'

Comments left on the pages of other teams included: 'LGBTwhatevers are the true bullies' and 'No! This is wrong! I do not support! Will officially be un-liking this organization if this is what your supports are!'

Despite the anti-gay comments left by some fans, there were others who congratulated the MLB teams for taking a stand against homophobic bullying.

The Facebook page for the New York Yankees saw many fans calling out the anti-gay comments and thanking their team for their support to LGBT youth, saying: 'great job Yankees and MLB for supporting this great cause!'
